Sandnes is the fastest growing municipality in Norway, with more than 72,000 inhabitants (October 2014). A growth of in excess of 2,000 persons per year creates a booming community. Much of this is a consequence of migration and just over 18 percent of the population have migrated from other countries. Representatives of 146 nationalities live in Sandnes.
Another source for the increase in the number of inhabitants is the fact that Sandnes attracts a lot of young couples to settle down and start a family. This makes Sandnes a very young community, with around 30 percent of the population being under the age of 19 years.
